I love this time of year because it motivates me to get creative in the kitchen and spend time making fun things with my kids. Besides making cookies, cakes, and other sweet treats, one of our favorite snacks and a great nosh for parties is my Spiced Nuts. It doesn’t take a lot of time to make and packs a flavorful healthy punch that will have you making them a lot! Since everyone likes different kinds of nuts, feel free to substitute with your favorites.

I know it’ll be hard but remember not to over indulge!!! Dinnertime is just around the corner!

Ingredients: 1 lb. whole raw walnut (almonds, pecans, or a mix), 2 tbsps. sea salt, 4 tbsps. sugar, 4 egg whites, beaten.

Preheat the oven to 350°. In a mixing bowl, toss the nuts with beaten egg whites until evenly coated.  In a separate small bowl, combine the salt and sugar until blended then add to the egg white coated nuts. Spread the nut mixture on a parchment paper-lined cookie sheet. Bake 15-20 minutes, turning a few times until toasted all around. Cool and serve.

This is the basic – but go mad! Try it with some cinnamon or cocoa powder added. Go hot and add some chili pepper. Be adventurous and make this recipe your own.

Enjoy! Go Nuts! Ha!
