Memorial Day is just about here. Besides being a day to be thankful and honor the people who died while serving in our armed forces, it has become the unofficial start of summer. Of course summer’s first day is June 20 so we still have some time!

Grills will be awakened from a winter’s nap and a kick-off barbecuing aroma will be wafting through the air. Instead of the usual beefburgers and hot dogs, try this yummy and unexpectedly delightful lamb burger.

I may have the most astounding recipes (ahem) but I have yet to master the outdoor grill. I wouldn’t even know what kind to buy! Check out this link to the Best Charcoal Grills!

My good friend, real estate broker extraordinaire Giovanni Gonzalez of GioHomes Real Estate was happy to help out with the grilling and not only cook the burgers, but try a lamb burger for the first time!

Gio is clearly handsome and fun, but he is also a consummate professional and GioHomes is the only choice if you’re looking for real estate in the NY Westchester area. I’m not only a fan, but I’m a member! Yep, my real estate license is active and when I have the time to serve up new homes to clients, it’s under the GioHomes banner.

Here’s how:

IMG_9556INGREDIENTS:
The Burger:
• 1 lb ground lamb
• 1/2 cup onion, minced
• 2 tbsp fresh parsley, minced
• 2 tbsp fresh mint, minced
• 1/2 tsp cinnamon
• 1/2 tsp cumin
• 1 tsp salt
• 1/2 tsp black pepper
IMG_9567The Garnishes:
• 1 cup baby spinach
• 1 cucumber, thinly sliced
• 4 slices red onion
• 1/2 cup feta cheese
• 1 tomato, thinly sliced
• 1/2 cup kalamata olives

DIRECTIONS:
1) Combine all ingredients. Mix well. Form into 4 patties.
2) Place each patty over hight heat. Turn after 3 minutes. Add burger buns to toast if you like. Let cook another 3-4 minutes then remove the buns and burgers.
3) Use garnish items to build the burger. Serve with olives.

Shake up your usual BBQ fare with this great burger. The flavors are so well matched… the freshness of the mint and parsley… the unexpected cumin and cinnamon… onions give it a great zip… WOW! The garnishes complement the burger further. Your guests are going to thank you… and a big THANK YOU to Giovanni for his help!
