Barcelona! Food for the Soul & Traditional Catalan Bread with Tomato!

Hola!

On this first day of the week, month, and year, it’s important to see where you’ve been and see where you want to go and make plans to get there! I’m going to start 2017 by sharing my most recent trip.

About 3 weeks ago, I went to Barcelona for a friend’s birthday weekend. I’d been to Spain’s party island of Ibiza some years back so I knew the people would be wonderful and the food would be fabulous. And was it EVER! Barcelona has inherent chicness and sophistication. The people were warm and wonderful.

There’s so much to see like La Pedrera, Park Guell, Sagrada Familia (above), and Montserrat. Stroll down La Rambla and explore the winding, narrow, charming streets of the Gothic quarter. We stayed in the centrally located Playa de Catalunya at Hotel Pulitzer Barcelona, which I HIGHLY recommend. Taking the hop on/hop off bus is the best way to become familiar with the sights but the metro system is really easy to navigate the city too.

Even the smallest little restaurants off the beaten path had yummy tapas, or little dishes. My favorite was Restaurante 2254. Every plate was gorgeous and delicious. A must-go!

Not only were each of these dishes delectable, but it was also my first experience with the Catalan way of serving bread and as simple as it seems, it is AMAZING!

Here’s how:

INGREDIENTS:
• 1 ciabatta roll
• 1 plum tomato
• 1/8-1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
• 1/2 tsp coarse salt

DIRECTIONS:
1) Slice roll and toast.
2) Halve tomato.Rub each piece of toast with half tomato.
3) Drizzle olive oil to taste. Sprinkle salt to taste.

It may seem frivolous, but spending a limited amount of time on an adventure can be cost-effective and jolt you into a refreshed frame of mind, which is the perfect way to kick off a new year!
