And the Winner Was…

Good morning!!!

We wanted to toss in a quick round-up of Oscar Night!

Seth MacFarlane – A HIT!! He was edgy, quick-witted, harkened back to the “big numbers”, and looked like he was having a great time. I hope he’ll do it again, although I hear he’s “one and done”.

We got a couple of surprises from our attendees. Our great friend Anne Flynn surprised us with homemade Oscar Statuettes as you can see! She must have had a psychic moment because she arrived with them positioned on a circular tray – and if you noticed, the set had wheels of Oscars too. She’s cutting edge! 🙂

Our other exciting add-in was my sister Nancy’s creation, the Lime of Pie-Eyed – a specialty cocktail of Citrus Vodka, Triple Sec, and Lime Juice. That certainly added to the festivities.

The best part of all of it was an email we got from a reader named Karen Miller. She wanted to print up our posters to give the guests are her Oscar party a good chuckle. And so she did! With her permission, we are sharing her post-party note:

“Hi Annette!

We had our Oscar’s party last night and it was a total hit!  Our guests were blown away by the posters and dishes – really!

I made D’Mango Engrained, Les MiserRabe, Lime of Pie and Zero Dark Turkey.  They were fantastic.  I got rave reviews especially for the Mango quinoa, but everybody loved everything.  They all went home with leftovers.

Having the posters really made the party.  Fabulous job on those.

You and Joe made it look so easy and fun to make the dishes.  That in turn gave me confidence to do it myself AND to approach it with that same fun attitude.  What a difference from my previous hosting style where you can get caught up in too many silly details that make it stressful.  Right?  Thanks for providing us with good, simple recipes to work with.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to more fun videos of you and Joe in the kitchen.

Thanks so much Annette for your fun, creative and delicious ideas….I had so much fun hosting our Oscars party.

Karen”

And with that, it was a perfect Academy Awards season. 🙂

So great Annette! You have inspired me!

Yesterday, I was at Maureen’s basketball game and one of the mom’s was going to an Oscar’s Party. I said to Mark that next year, we should have an Oscar Party and I will make all your dishes, have a red carpet and make it black tie! Looking forward to pics!!!

    Love Margaret

      Hi Margaret!!
That sounds fabulous! Do it for sure!!! I always have the “opposite” of black tie – we are a raucous bunch but I’m hoping we can create a benefit surrounding it. The fun of it all is not knowing what the menu will be until the nominations come out. Nancy’s cocktail was a hit! Having a specialty cocktail menu is the one commitment I haven’t made to the evening yet but I think it’s next year’s new challenge. That would have meant a menu of 9 cocktails – woo hoo! Yes… needs to happen! Ha! Miss you! Love, Annette
